Remote practice

If you’ve been hurt, call us on (08) 9193 2215 in the morning. You have nothing to lose because we won’t charge you if we don’t get you compensation.
Tom Cannon has been working on groundbreaking remote accident and injury cases in WA for more than 25 years. For the last 11 of those, he has been doing settlement conferences in the North West and Goldfields regions with his clients on Country, the Insurance Commission of WA and barristers.
Tom makes the process of being compensated for accidents or injury far easier for his clients. He understands the issues people in remote regions face – including the Kimberley, Pilbara and Goldfields – because he has lived there. That’s why he does big conference “runs” to go to them – travelling from Newman to Kununurra or Kalgoorlie to Uluru. Tom also sets up video conferences or takes specialists, like psychiatrists and bone doctors, with him so his clients don’t have to travel as much.
Tom’s supported by a team of lawyers and experienced paralegals, some of whom have been doing remote work for more than 20 years.
What we do
Motor vehicle personal injury claims
If you’ve been hurt in a motor vehicle accident or because of a motor vehicle accident (including if you have lost someone in an accident), we can help you. You should get in touch quickly as there are strict time limits on these claims, including:
- 3 years for adults from date of accident
- 6 years for kids under 15 from date of accident
- 6 years for kids over 15 until their 21st birthday (depending on date of accident).
In certain cases, we may be able to get extensions but you still need to act quickly.
Criminal injury compensation claims
If you’ve been hurt by someone committing a crime, we can help you. You should get in touch quickly as there are strict time limits of 3 years from the date of the incident. It’s worth knowing that your claim can be denied if you don’t cooperate with the police, if the offender is acquitted, if you were doing an illegal act at the time you were injured or you are still in a relationship with the offender. In certain cases, we may be able to get extensions but you still need to act quickly.
How long will it take?
It’s worth understanding that these claims take time – and sometimes years – because we need to get police reports, medical records, and prepare and lodge your detailed statement and application. The time it takes can also depend on how seriously you are injured and how often you lose touch with our office.
If there are any associated prosecutions, we also need to wait for those matters to be finalised in the courts.
What happens if you sign up?
Don’t worry, we won’t charge you if we can’t get you compensation.
So once you tell us you want us to represent you, we will send you some papers to get your authority. You then sign those papers and send them back to us. We can’t act for you until we get them. Once we have those, we start our enquiries, including getting in touch with the police and medical professionals. With motor vehicle claims, we also put the insurer on notice about the claim. All we need from you is your promise to stay in touch and be respectful when dealing with our people.
